Of all the books I read to my toddler son (30 years ago), this is the one I still cherish the most. The POETRY! The PICTURES! This marvelous book gives parent and child that wonderful feeling of being in touch with the universe and each other, and it lasts a lifetime.

Johnson has created an amazing story of two young girls and the role they played in the civil rights movement. Velasquez's black and white illustrations, with only the hint of red color every so often, perfectly accent this story of one of many of the unknown heroes that helped play a role in a powerful part of American history. After consulting her computer (after all witches rarely have crystal balls now), Bella learns that witches can not change themselves into the princess she wants to be. So, she must find another non-magical way. A great story about a courageous witch and being yourself. Fun illustrations add to this great adventure that is not just for Halloween, but year around. A must have for your princess.
